Weddle’s (www.weddles.com) continually conducts both primary and secondary research on Best Practices in employment excellence and HR leadership. They recently asked the visitors to the Weddle’s web site to tell where they expect to find their next job. A total of 1,270 job seekers participated in the survey.
Here’s how they think they’ll be successful in future job search campaigns:
57.6% responding to an ad on an Internet job board
16.8% networking at business events
7.2% responding to a job posting on an employer’s web site
75% of currently employed professionals expect to find their next job using the Internet.
16.8% networking at business events
Job Seekers report visiting between five and ten employment websites a month.
According to surveys conducted by Yahoo and the Bureau of Labor Statistics between eighty - three and eighty-four percent of American workers are passive prospects, they are employed and are not actively seeking a change in employment.
Of these passive prospects forty-one percent routinely visit and browse job boards or have placed their resume on a job board's database.
Why do so few job seekers (7.2%) feel they cannot get connected when they visit a company's Career Portal?
- A surprising number of companies do not have an interactive Career Portal. They have a simple "apply here" button that sends seeker's resume to someone anonymous e-mail file with no description of positions open, company culture, benefits, etc.
- Many companies have a convoluted process for applying to jobs requiring seekers to register, obtain a user name and password, answer long skill assessment tests, etc.
According to a survey conducted by CareerBuilder:
- Twenty three percent (23%) of job seekers drop-off when asked to register.
- Another twenty six percent (26%) drop off when asked to answer 5 or more question
Many companies simply "cut and paste" stale job descriptions that do not tell Job Seekers the 3 things they are most interested in:
- What about the company makes them unique to work for?
- What is unique about the particular job (growth, cross training, etc.)?
- What is the salary range and benefit package for the position?
